Piano Tuning Turns Your Off-key Piano
Into A Beautiful Sounding Musical Instrument.

Does your piano need a piano tuning? Is it a little off-key? Ye Olde Piano Shop's owner is a certified piano technician and piano tuner. I will come to your home, school, church, or college in SE Wisconsin to tune your piano to its optimum performance.

I service all of Ozaukee, Washington, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Waukesha, and northern Racine counties.

How I Tune Your Piano

I use the aural method (by ear) to tune your piano. This is the preferred method favored by all professional pianists I have met. Professional pianists who play high caliber pianos often reject technicians who use electronic tuners in my experience.

I use the standard international pitch A-440 tuning fork 99 percent of the time to set the proper pitch. This is the first A above middle C. It has a frequency of 440 hertz (cycles/second). A few piano owners have requested me to tune their pianos to A-443. I will do so upon request.

Tuning a piano requires me to make minute adjustments to the tensions of the strings of your piano. I will be properly aligning the intervals between your piano's tone. I use a piano lever and mutes to adjust your piano's strings tension.

It is not easy to tune a piano. Your piano has over 250 strings under high tension. You should never try to tune a piano yourself. This is a task that only certified piano technicians, such as myself, should handle.

How Often Should A Piano Be Tuned?

I recommend that your piano be tuned at least once a year. Some people recommend twice a year. The ever changing humidity in Wisconsin causes your piano to go out of tune. Humid and dry air changes your piano strings' tension.

To avoid damage to your piano, I recommend that you have me install a piano humidifier dehumidifier in your piano, if you don't already have one installed. Installing a Piano Life Saver System also may reduce the need for annual or semi-annual tunings.

If you or someone in your home is beginning piano lessons soon, I recommend that you call me to tune your piano before you begin lessons.

It is essential to a have a properly tuned piano while engaging in piano lessons. A student needs to know what a properly tuned piano sounds like.

Music teachers will correct you, the student, when they hear an off note. You wouldn't want to be blamed for making a mistake, when it is actually your piano's poor tuning, would you? I didn't think so.

Be sure to have your piano tuned before any concerts, for best results.

How Long Will It Take To Tune A Piano?

If you keep your piano tuned yearly, a typical tuning session will take me about two hours time in your home. If you neglect a yearly tuning, it will take me much longer. A piano's sound will go flat with an increasing amount of time between tunings requiring more adjustments.

How Much Will A Piano Tuning Cost?

If you keep your piano tuned yearly, a typical basic tuning will cost you about $90.00 plus tax. If your piano hasn't been tuned in the past year, it will take me longer to tune your piano. The longer you wait, the more it will cost to tune your piano.

Your Piano Is An Investment

Your piano is an investment that should be protected. With proper care your piano will last a long time. If your piano does not hold its tuning, it may be time to consider some repairs, restoration or replacement.
